With every great sports program comes great players throughout the years of the game. Well for a highly successful team such as Duke; there have been many players to come through the program and change the game of basketball forever. One of the many outstanding players to name on this very long list would be Christian Laettner who played for Duke during the time of 1889-1892. Laettner won two nation titles in 1991 and 1992, he is third all-time in Duke basketball points, and so much more. Despite Laettner being one of the most talented players to ever be a part of Duke; he was also one of the most hated players in college basketball because of his scrappy and intense play that people would consider to be "dirty playing". Another player that joins Laettner in this special Duke Basketball era is Grant Hill. Grant Hill was a forward for Duke who as well one two national titles in 1991 and 1992. Grant Hill became a successful nba player and co-owner of the hawks after his time at Duke. Going up in a few years to the 2000s is a game-changing player out of Duke University is JJ Redick. Redick is a two-time national player of the year and also own the duke highest point record with 2,769 points to his name while playing for Duke University. Redick went on to become a well know three-point shooter in the NBA and is now a sports analyzer. After this era of guys, players started to become more involved in wanting to get to the pros faster. Therefore, teams especially Duke would be known for recruiting top players out of high school but then losing them to the pros after only one year of college play. Players such as Marvin Bagley, Zion Williamson, Kyrie Irving, and more phenomenal players who are now in the NBA and only spent one successful year with Duke.
